Whoa Is Me!

Can anybody explain this?

Usually my Parking Suns blog site averages a few dozen hits per day.  Some days are slower, some days I may get close to 200 viewers (186 visitors was the high-water mark).  However, during the past three days I’ve had over 5000 visitors!  Whoa!  A vital, viral tidal wave!  What happened?

Between August 3 and August 5, viewers clicked on this site from 67 countries around the world (High five, Finland!  Hey, man, Oman!  Don’t cry for me, Argentina!).  In the USA, all 50 states were represented, with the strongest showings in Illinois (285 visits), California (265), New York (229, although I account for a few dozen visits myself – yes, I’m obsessive) and Texas (217).

Almost everyone is going to this page:  What’s it like having Parkinson’s?  So far, about 20 people have added comments to that page, too.  Many of the comments are amazing, heartfelt and stunning.  Thank you!

I’m thrilled if other people are finding my site worthwhile.  The article “What’s it like having Parkinson’s?” is really a collaborative effort with other official blogging partners for next year’s World Parkinson Congress in Portland, Oregon (Sept. 20-23, 2016).  My colleagues at the World Parkinson Coalition and I wonder how and why this particular post went so viral.

Anyone care to share how this happened?

Update Sunday morning, August 9:  The party’s winding down.  Between Monday, August 3, and Friday, August 7, 6003 users visited Parking Suns for 6,459 sessions.  But the tidal wave is tapering.

Here’s the daily breakdown for the first seven days in August:

  • Aug 1:         20 sessions
  • Aug 2:         24      “
  • Aug 3:   1,005     “
  • Aug 4:   2,699     “
  • Aug 5:   1,723     “
  • Aug 6:      714      “
  • Aug 7:      318      “
  • Aug 8:      163

Thank you again to everyone who visited, who left comments, and who helped me write the original article (that is, my fellow WPC bloggers).

Best wishes to all!
