Yoga Balancing Poses: One-Sided Difficulty

standing tree pose

If you glance at my physical workout calendar, you’ll see that I often do 60 minutes of stretching exercises at home.  These include some yoga balancing poses, especially the Standing Tree Pose (see illustration above) and the Balancing Stick Pose (below).

Both poses pose no problem when I balance on my left foot.  But I wobble, fail, wobble, fail, wobble and finally succeed when I do the pose on my right foot.  It’s been this way for at least two years, and I’m happy to report that.  That is, my Parkinson’s disease hasn’t progressed any further on this issue.

Which is reason to rejoice, I s’pose.

  1. There’s lots of yoga poses that work on balance. Try some different ones. You may have better luck or at least different opportunities to balance yourself.
