Traditional Korean Music Shot Into the Future!


Many of my friends and Facebook followers are either Korean or Americans who, like me, worked in Korea, primarily as Peace Corps Volunteers. I lived in Korea for five years, and studied a traditional zither called the kayagum. (Click on the link to hear me play it.)

A friend from my Peace Corps days (Dan Holt!) alerted me to the modern Korean group SsingSsing. They’ve recycled some of the old traditional ways of making music, but they do it in a completely 21st Century style. It’s quite amazing.

BTW, it’s merely coincidental that I happen to live in Ossining, NY, home of Sing Sing prison.
