Poetry in 1st Grade

In the past week I collected two startling and fun pages out of our 1st Grade students’ poetry journals.

First, a poem by a boy who’s very much into writing poems that rhyme.

Second, a journal response by a girl who read a haiku translated from the Japanese.

The terrific thing about my job is that I am continually surprised and delighted by how smart all children are.
