Parking Sun’s Pandemic Pleasantries

Even though I’m mostly shut in these days, anxious about covid-19 and not working out at the gym, I experience plenty of pleasant moments at home. Seek them out and you can find them yourself – or just take a gander at what I shot today. (Shot with my camera, of course – nothing violent.)

First things first. All my pill bottles are standing upright on my bureau, and that’s my husband as a child. He’s holding his hands over his ears because the pills make a quiet racket as I pour the right amounts into the empty cap and toss them into my mouth. He sweetly wishes I wasn’t sick.

Our two cats wait every morning for me to open the bedroom door. Then they follow the same routine: Toro, on the left, immediately starts raking her claws on the sisal scratching post, while her sister, Tako, moseys into our bedroom for a quick inspection. Then it’s helter-skelter down to the kitchen for breakfast!

Flowers on the kitchen table from our garden.

Outside, our butterfly bush is a beehive of activity.

For lunch I love to eat at my desk and comb through the New York Times. Say, what’s George Bush doing on the front page? Oh, geez: Willie Horton, and Donald Trump’s likelihood of following the same strategy. OK, so the day isn’t entirely pleasant….

Nap time!

Around cocktail hour most days, this doe and fawn meander along the hill our house backs up to. We’re fine with them because our deer fence keeps them out of our garden.

Did someone say “cocktail hour”?

Bath time! From my perch on the toilet seat I gaze over a still life of vertical blue and white.

Time for bed! Or rather, time to start reading in bed, which may be one of the greatest pleasures of the day. Right now I’m working my way through Karl Sterling’s Parkinson’s Regeneration Training. It’s encyclopedic – and I’ll review it on this blog as soon as I finish.

  1. Your positivity helps mine. Maybe I should take a few pictures around the house of things that make me happy.
I feed doves and sparrows on my fire escape, and yesterday a dove flew into the apt. He tried to get out but hit the glass. Must have been very frightened. I opened all the top windows, and eventually he saw his way clear to fly out. I considered his visit a good omen.

I was so surprised the deer come as close as they do to your back patio. Do they do that if you are sitting out back?
And now to meditate. It helps a lot in this period.

  2. So many photos that make me smile. This is a terrific exercise, as Lindsay suggests above. I take a lot of pix of my cat Rocket to send to my daughters and they share them with all their friends. He has become a star in their circles and makes so many people smile now. I note that many of these photos that make us happy are about nature and animals. And then a glass of wine! Your new bathroom vanity looks terrific.

I love that photo of Yong Ih. SO CUTE!!!!
