Promising Stem Cell Possibility

Stem cells are back in the news again, and here’s what research scientists are trying to do on the Parkinson’s front in San Diego.

Basically, they are taking cell samples from the skin of Parkinson’s patients and using them to create new stem cells which (hopefully) they can then insert into the patient’s brain to regenerate the neurons lost to PD.

Let’s watch!  (Apologies that you have to sit through a commercial first!)

This experimental research is just in the beginning stages.  Apparently they’ve gathered the skin cells but have not yet implanted the stem-cell version in the patient’s brain.

They’ve got the patients; now we all need patience.

By the way, the video raises this question:  How do you convert skin cells into stem cells that replace or regenerate the brain’s neurons?  I’ll now post this question on the other part of my website where I list all my Parkinson’s disease questions.

I hope the video embeds correctly and doesn’t disappear in a few days, as has happened with me in the past….

Here’s a link to the website, just in case:  click!
